This weekend we went to the BBC Good Food Show, just up the road in Harrogate. Michelle Roux Jr, cheeses and so much gin, what more could you want??! It was so good! My only regret is only seeing one demonstration and missing out on the Hairy Bikers as they sold out for the showing we wanted.
We arrived early – 10am – in order to browse the stalls before our seats to see Michelle Roux Jr. I was glad I hadn’t had breakfast because there was more room for all the tasty samples! We tried food after food, everything from curry to sausage, and saw all kinds of produce – including kippers!
I bought two cheddars – a lovely garlic and chive and a Rioja and caramelised onion. They won’t last long in the fridge! We tried an excellent Harrogate blue cheese too from Shepherds Purse but decided two was enough.
After the cheeses it was on to sample some delightful gins – Mason Dry Yorkshire Gin make amazing infused gins, with Yorkshire tea(?!?) and lavender for sampling. The tea wasn’t to my taste but the lavender was wonderful, really light and delicate.
Then it was onto the condiments. We visited the Reavers stand and had the hottest chilli sauce I’ve ever tried! Gary said it wasn’t very hot, but it really was, I almost died. He then proceeded to purchase said hot sauce, so we can a enjoy our mouths feeling like volcanoes at home.
Next up, Tracklements, which my friend had told me to try. We got a wonderful Rosemary jelly and a mustard, but they had all sorts to choose from including a roasted cherry tomato relish that I’m still thinking about.
Then it was onto Le Range Mesurier for some exciting mayonnaises, we picked up a bernaise sauce which will be lovely on steak.
After seeing Michelle Roux Jr prepare a beer soup and an apricot soufflé, we called it a day and were given goodie bags on the way out with some chutney, rice crackers, laundry detergent(?!?) and other bits.
It was a lovely day and I’d really recommend visiting these shows if they are nearby to you.
